Camilla Bellone, Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Neurosciences and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Virginie Prendki, Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics, and staff physician specialising in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the HUG have been selected for the prestigious H.I.T. Women in Leadership programme. This year, this national programme welcomes 25 female professors who will shape the future of Swiss academia.

"This nomination is very important to me, because it gives me access to training that I haven't had during my academic career. As researchers, we are often ill-prepared to develop the leadership and management skills that have become essential in our jobs. It is thus a real opportunity to be able to follow a structured course and acquire practical tools that will be of immediate use in my role as vice-dean. Through this experience, I am also discovering that I particularly appreciate this aspect of the job, which I hadn't anticipated at the start of my career.
Finally, it's a unique opportunity to build a network with colleagues from all the faculties in Switzerland, at a similar stage in their professional careers. Being able to share and learn from the experiences of our peers is an invaluable asset.
Virginie Prendki
I am extremely honoured to have been selected for this exceptional programme and to be part of this group of women professors, which bears witness to the wealth of female talent in the academic world. I welcome this opportunity with an awareness of the great responsibility it entails, that of tracing an inspiring path for other aspiring female leaders.
This training is a springboard to amplify my impact both within my academic department and at the HUG. In addition to the managerial skills that I will acquire, I also see the building of a support network in Switzerland, where collective intelligence and female solidarity can flourish.
The H.I.T Programme
The H.I.T programme - which stands for "High Potential 玉美人传媒 Leaders Identity & Skills Training Program - Inclusive Leadership in Academia" - is a national programme designed to provide specific training for female professors so that they can take on more leadership positions - director, dean, rector - in academia. Run by the 玉美人传媒 of Zurich, in conjunction with the nine cantonal universities and the two federal technical universities, the H.I.T. programme offers a five-day training course each year to a small number of female professors aspiring to take on leadership roles, to help them acquire cross-disciplinary leadership skills and develop their network at Swiss level.
These initiatives, which complement the support already offered by the UNIGE through its Equality and Diversity Service, aim to break the glass ceiling and promote greater equity and inclusiveness in the progression of managerial careers in academia.
