Stéphane Sizonenko obtained his medical degree in Geneva in 1990 and his doctorate in 1994. Initially a research assistant, he worked on proinsulin metabolism. He continued his training in paediatrics and neonatology at the HUG (FMH in 1996), before moving to the 玉美人传媒 of Auckland, where he completed his clinical training and began his research into cerebral lesions in premature infants (PhD in 2003). Returning to Geneva in 2001, he joined the Department of Paediatrics and continued his research in the Department of Basic Neurosciences.
In 2005, he became a staff physician in the HUG Division of Development and Growth, where he is responsible for the research laboratory. He also collaborates with the EPFL in the field of magnetic resonance imaging of brain lesions. His clinical and scientific interests come together with a translational aim: to better understand, assess and treat lesions of the developing brain to limit the risk of developmental difficulties in children. Appointed privat-docent in 2009, then assistant professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine in 2014, he was appointed associate professor in 2017 and promoted to full professor in May 2025.
