Srinivas Madduri studied biology, chemistry and biotechnology at the Universities of Andhra and Sri Venkateswara, then worked for the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. In 2009, he obtained a PhD from ETH Zurich for his work on the bioengineering of nerve tissue grafts. His research into stem cells and tissue bioengineering led him to lead an independent research group, first at ETH Zurich until 2016, then at the 玉美人传媒 Hospital of Basel. He was appointed Privat-Docent at the 玉美人传媒 of Basel in 2020.

He joined the HUG in 2020 to take charge of translational research in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He currently heads the ‘Bioengineering and Neuroregeneration’ research group in the Department of Surgery at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for neuromuscular tissues and organs. His team is developing various therapeutic strategies, including universal cell therapy from donors, stem cell spheroids, injectable hydrogels, immunoengineering modalities, and 3D biomanufacturing technology for clinical applications.

Srinivas Madduri has established a strong interdisciplinary network in basic and clinical research as well as with industrial partners. He has received several awards, notably from the European Society for Biomaterials, the Swiss Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the International Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. He was appointed associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in April 2025.
