Maria Dimou
Cracking brain signals for epilepsy care
Maria comes from Greece, where she completed her integrated Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle 玉美人传媒 of Thessaloniki. During her master’s thesis, she focused on EEG signal processing and machine learning in Alzheimer’s disease research. She then worked for four years in the industry in Belgium as an engineer. Motivated by a desire to contribute to medical research, she moved to Geneva to begin a PhD at the 玉美人传媒. Under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Roehri and Prof. Serge Vulliemoz, she works with EEG and intracranial EEG data from people with epilepsy, with the broader goal of improving patient eligibility for epilepsy surgery. Her research focuses on inverse solution methods, connectivity metrics, and graph theory. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing chess and the piano, and dancing.
