My Research

  • My PhD project, under the supervision of and , focuses on a combination of geochronology, thermochronology, and structural studies to better understand the tectonic evolution of the continental crust, particularly on the Antarctic Peninsula.

  • Also, I am interested in applying thermochronology to better understand landscape evolution and how this links to the evolution of the biosphere. Particularly, the application of this approach in understanding the connection between flora and fauna of Antarctic Peninsula with that of Patagonia during the Cenozoic.

Research Projects

I collaborate with colleagues from Chile, Switzerland, UK, Ireland and USA in different projects that address the tectonic evolution of the Andean and Antarctic Peninsula margin.
  • Project RT0614: Funded by the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) address the thermal evolution of the continental crust of Antarctic Peninsula.

Methods

  • Geochronology: LA-ICP-MS in zircon and 40Ar/39Ar in hornblende and mafic groundmass.
  • Thermochronology: LA-ICP-MS in apatite,听40Ar/39Ar in white mica and biotite, Fission Tracks in apatite and zircons, and (U-Th)/He in apatite and zircons
  • Isotope geochemistry: Hf and O isotopes in zircon and Sr-Nd-Pb in bulk rock.
